Growing by Service
Sometimes I feel really bored with sermons I hear. I think "Oh great, another guy throwing information at me." I know in my head the sermon contains the truth and thing useful for training in righteousness, but it doesn't reach me. Sermons can get really lifeless when it doesn't feel relevant to us. We says things like "I didn't get much from that sermon." What about asking what the sermon got from you? What about asking how you intend to make the truth of God relevant to you in your life? I find that when I get out and do sermons they really become alive (when I do them). The Bible is truth and it says that Scripture is living and active, shaper than a double edged sword. The truth of God becomes alive when we are active. It is never meant to just be information, never meant to be "propositional truths." It is meant to be mobilized and carried out. Through carrying out the mission of God and witnessing to His kingdom coming we find the deeper meanings of the truth of God. We find that the mission of God is a very important one. And, as we find meaning in the truth of God we find growth. When truth comes alive it changes us. It is no longer information, but something that is engorged with life. So if you feel like church is dry. If you feel like falling asleep in sermons. Don't just sit there and sleep. Arise for your light has come, the glory of the Lord shines upon you! It is God that brings all these things to us - truth, growth, meaning. Halleluiah, Our God Reigns

Ya!! That's a stand up and cheer at the end kind of a post. And then after you stand up and cheer, you get up and do something (something kingdom"ish", not just get a beer while you're up and sit back down, I don't think that's exactly what you meant).
